Long time no see

I'm back... I haven't posted in a while as you can all see, but I'm going to try and keep this up now that the trip is drawing closer.

Biggest news...

I got my trailer in along with a bunch of items I'm going to need for the trip which include: extra bike shorts, ergonomic grips, a fender for my front tire, a new rear tire, butt butter, KSO finger shoes, and bike gloves. Still looking for a new helmet, Camelback, and a few camping odds and ends.

Because of my school schedule, we pushed the start of the trip back a few weeks so that I could fit in some summer school that way I can graduate this time next year from ASU. It's going to be pushing it for us to get done in time now, but I think we should be able to make it.

That's about it for now. I'll check back in with anything new later this week.

Colorado

My Colorado trip is coming to an end tomorrow. However, over the last week or so I've experienced a lot. My legs have been feeling good lately as I have been getting some sort of exercise everyday since I've been here. My activities thus far have included: hockey, downhill skiing, cross country skiing and last but not least snow shoeing. All of my adventures have been with my dad and brother. However, my brother wasn't with us very long cause most of the time he was at a conference in Oklahoma. He's been with us for the last couple days though which has been great.

We were fortunate enough to ski three different resorts while we were here. The three resorts were Monarch, Crested Butte and Telluride. Colorado has had kinda a week snow season so on all three mountains only part of the resorts were open and some of the runs had been skied to the point where a few rocks were showing through. Despite the conditions we still had a great time and our legs got quite a workout. Of the three I think CB was my favorite.

When we weren't skiing my dad and I cross country skied and snow shoed through the mill creek area near Gunnison. My dad and I usually finished our days playing hockey going one on one against each other. That was a great workout.

As of now we are getting ready to snow shoe off of the lizard head pass out on to some steep ridges with the hope of seeing some great views.

Our trip here will be ending soon though as my dad and I will start the long drive back to AZ tomorrow morning.

On an ending note I would like to thank the Mulloys for offering us their house and hospitality in Telluride. Had a great time skiing and snow shoeing in the area.

School is approaching soon and I look forward to the change as I am going to be attending ASU this semester. Should be exciting!

The Holidays

It's been awhile since I last blogged. This holiday season has been crazy. I thought that after the semester ended that life would slow down a little. To say the least, it did not.

Since last my last blog a lot of stuff has happened. I quit my swim coaching job at the YMCA and my Baskin Robbins job. As of this time I am done coaching however, tomorrow will be my last day with BR. To keep some sort of income I will be partnering up with mike to work construction. This will be nice because then we will both be on the same schedule for when we want to take weekends off and go biking. My school schedule will allow for me to take 4 day weekends as well. I only have class on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at ASU.

In addition to quitting my jobs, I also got my bike!!! I have been on a few rides since then and I am very happy with the bike setup I have chosen (thank you to Landis). Anytime now the BOB trailers should be coming in as well. I'm excited to see how those pull.

Christmas was rather small at the Schifferer house this year. Sat around the fire place and opened up a few presents this year. Was good to slow down and relax for a day.

As far as New Years goes this year. When I'm not working at BR, I will be packing and it sounds like my brother, dad and I are going to be leaving at 3 AM to start the long drive through the snow to Colorado. Zach is going to be speaking at a conference before school starts so we are going to drive up with him and play a little before we both have to go back to school. We left this trip pretty open ended so we're not sure when we will get back but, it will probably be between 1 and 2 weeks long. We'll see how much fun we are having and how the bank account holds up.

As far as training went... still doing yoga, I've been going on a few bike rides a week both road and mountain bike rides and every Sunday morning before church I go for a hike usually with Mike, my dad and Mychala. This trip to Colorado though should really challenge me as we plan on snow shoeing, skiing and possibly some back country skiing as well. Should be fun.

Haven't decided if I'm going to take my computer with yet but, even if I don't I will try and find a way to continue blogging while I'm there.

Thanks for following!

Finals Week!

Wow! It's been a while since I took the time to sit down and jot down my thoughts.

This week has been crazy as I work through my finals for school. I've got two more this week and then I'll be done. Looking forward to it. My first two went well and I'm looking forward to get the last two done and out of the way.

Awesome news! My bike came in today. However, I probably won't be picking it up until after Christmas. Credit card is set up so that the cut off ends the 24th so if I don't pay for it until then I will have another month to sort out tuition payments and having to pay for the bike. I'm bummed but, I think it's the best move at the moment. Once I do get my bike I expect I will be getting much more exercise then I am now.

I have been doing little things here and there trying to eat better and improve myself. I started doing yoga a couple times a week with my friend Mychala trying to get more flexible. It's been helping a lot and I enjoy it very much. I am incredibly stiff and inflexible in my legs so I can almost touch my toes now. I know it sounds lame but it's a huge improvement for me.

Time to study for me. Need to get some good cramming in before I turn in tonight. I've got a final in the morning... sigh.

First Cold

First morning here where it was decently cold. Nothing like you will hear from my brother Zach's blog but, for here, it's cold. Drove in the open air jeep today for about 30 minutes in 36 degree air. That was cold! I thought I was just being a wimp telling myself that it was probably mid 40's. Definitely wasn't.

I've tried yoga a few times never really got into it. I decided that I'm going to pick it up to stay flexible and keep everything working smoothly. I completed my first session today. I felt it was very beneficial. If you know me at all you know I am not flexible whatsoever. My lower body in particular is very tight. I hope to loosen those muscle groups up some this year. Mike's daughter Mychala has some Christian yoga videos we can do so, it sounds like we are going to try those out. She says they are good so I'm going to take her word for it.

I've got a hike planned for the morning so I've got to hit the hay. G'night!

More Bike Discussion

Classes are almost over. The semester is finally coming to an end. I can't wait until its all over. I will have much more time after that to work on our trip.

I talked to mike today. He said that his bike came in today and when he went to go pick it up they hadn't put the pedals we had talked to them about on yet. So, I'm going to go in and talk to them about what I want on the bike to make sure they have it completely set up when I go in to get it. Also, I need to tell them what shoes I want so they can get those on order as well. That way when my bike does come in they can set up the bike for me so that it will fit perfectly. I decided I want some more casual shoes so that I can get off my bike anytime and go into a store or sit down and get something to eat without looking like a total baboon. I'll put those shoes up on the website with the pair of riding shorts I'm going to get once I get them picked out.

Once again thanks for following the blogs. G'night!

BIKE

Woohoo! Ordered my bike and the BOB trailer yesterday. Landis said it won't get in for about a week or so but I'm still excited about it. I'm going to have to buy some good shorts and some mountain bike shoes. My plan for next semester is ride my bike to school every day. It should be about 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours one way so that will help with saddle time for me. Until then I'm going to look for opportunities to ride my bike through the desert as much as possible. That should start to the break in process nicely. Also, riding my road bike with Mychala should be fun too. Looking forward to this semester ending. Just a couple more weeks. I'm hanging in there.

South Mountain

Got up early this morning before church to hike up South Mountain today. Good hike! Went up and back in 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Can't stop thinking about getting this bike. My mind has also really been turning over ideas for what kind of gear we are gonna want to take. Hopefully before Christmas we will get some more specs up for gear on the website. Right now we are still deciding what stuff we want. The gear we take will also have to do with who sponsors us and who is willing to help us out. I look forward to seeing how that pans out. Hoping to get some help from REI. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Pralines N' Cream

Just finished off my day working at Baskin Robbins. My favorite ice cream at the moment is Pralines N' Cream and I found myself taste testing probably more than I should have today. After Black Friday yesterday the store was real slow which is probably why I found myself drifting back towards that particular flavor. Despite frequenting the Pralines N' Cream tub often today I couldn't help but think about the change in eating habits I will soon be making as I start to train more for our BIGGMAC trip. I'm definitely going to exercise some self control when I'm around the ice cream buckets.

Despite the ice cream binging today, I did make some head way to completing the web site. I purchased a product from the Apple Store which is going to be used as our photo gallery. As of right now the photo tab is not up and working however, soon it should be. It will allow allow us to upload photos from anywhere we have access to a computer with internet. Sounds really cool! Hopefully the next couple days I can meet with Jason, our internet guy, to help set it up.

A couple more weeks and the college semester will be over and I will have much more time to dedicate towards this endeavor. I expect things to start coming together much quicker then.

As for today... time to hit the hay. G'night.

Black Friday

Started out my day today hiking Camelback Mountain with my dad, Mike Lynch and a couple other friends. We got there in the morning and the mountain, being usually busy, wasn't busy at all. I was able to get the best parking spot in the lot. We made our way up to the top, enjoyed the view for a while, looked for a geocache and then headed on down. By the time we were half way down the crowds had decided to show up. This mountain is rather technical and difficult to climb and holy smokes we saw some people heading up the mountain that had no business doing so. By the time we had arrived at the bottom, sure enough there was the fire department getting ready to head up the mountain to rescue someone who had fallen flat on their face and knocked themselves out cold. It didn't sound to good but the guy ended up walking out with some assistance. It was good to hear he wasn't hurt all that bad.

Being Black Friday and all most people were out hitting the stores as early as 12AM. Not I. I don't prefer the crowds so I decided to steer away from any shopping that I would need to do that day and save it for another. Ended up working that evening at Baskin Robbins until close and now I sit and blog. I hope BIGGMAC will start to gain some attention soon. While I tell all my relatives about it I ponder ways to get the word out more. Comment if you have any suggestions.

As far as training goes... Sounds like I won't be ordering my bike until maybe this coming Monday. I look forward to it. I've been doing little hikes here and there but I haven't done much as far as training goes. I really need to start putting more time and effort into it. The holiday season makes that a little harder but, I'll try and not let that become an excuse. I'll probably end up hiking Camelback Mountain again on Sunday morning.

Keep coming back. I hope to keep this blog going everyday. G'night!
